Hiwarau Explanation of Homemade Instrument.

Explanation of Homemade Instrument

Task: Create instructions on how you will make your instrument including the materials needed, step by step instructions on what to do, and explanation as to how the sound is made.

This doc is a really rough outline for setting out your writing. You should use images and even video where appropriate.

Materials Needed: Strings Boxes drelles nails

Instructions for Homemade Instrument:
  1. [First Instruction]....
  2. get 1 piece of box
  3. then get 6  strings
  4. then drills some holes in the box
  5. then stick the strings in the hole
  6. then you have a guitar.

Explanation of how sound is created: by making an instrument and by playing it.
Introduction:
I’m going to explain how…

Main reason:guitars make high and low sound when you strum

Second reason:
if you do not strum the guitar it does not make any noise

Third reason: The reason I pick guitar because I like the sound it makes

Conclusion: so the how the guitar makes sound

Sciece Road Show.

On Friday morning class 2 walked down to Tamaki College. Once we got to Tamaki College this man named Sean he is so tall he has to duck to go under the door. When we got in the room there was 2men and 1 lady. They were telling us about science. They told us they needed 3 volunteers.

So the 3 volunteers they picked was Iisa and Emmy and Anthony. When Iisa stood up he had to put on a blind fold. When the scientist said he had to pick food. There was one bad food and one good food Iisa had to pick one with the blindfold on. The lady put the food on one hand and then the other.

He had to put one hand up and it was the good food. Then he had to go find some water? So the lady went to put on a picture of a lion and a pitcher of a crocodile. He had to try and pick the right picture. He picked the wrong picture he pick the lion. he wanted to have water but he got the wrong one he was supposed to pick the crocodile.

Now it was Emmys turn. The scientist asked her if she had asmar and she said no.
There was this big mug with a tube on it. the lady asked her to blow on it So she did the. Then the blue water turned into a different color water and it looked cool when blew in to it and the it chand into another color.

Now it’s Anthony’s turn. The lady asked him questions. She said to him how old is he and when is his birthday so he told her. Then she typed it on the ipad. Then it said in 20 years he would be like 3 or 4 foot in 20 years and it was fun listening to the scientist and them for teaching us stuff that we could do.

When the scientist told us that we could play on any material they bring to Tamaki College.
The first thing I picked was the piano it was cool because when you stand on the keys it plays.
After that I went to play on the hot air balloon you  have to hold the hot air balloon and hold the button until it heated up and then you let it go and then it went high.

Hiwarau Guitars.

Guitars are cool instruments to play. Some people like playing guitars and some don’t. You can make songs from guitars. I like it when people play guitars because it can make other people play guitars and other instruments.

When people strum guitars it vibrates and it shakes. You can hear the noise coming from the back of the guitar. The hole on the guitar helps it make noise. So if the guitar didn't have a hole and it is not shaped the way it is it wouldn't make the same sound.

A guitar has six metal strings, and tuning pegs. Guitars are made from wood, guitars can play melodies and harmonies. The metal wires are to help guitars play. Because if a guitar did not have any strings it won't play any music.

When you play music the sound waves vibrate the air molecules, it’s the same with a guitar. When you strum it, the strings vibrate. It will make lots of sound when you play an instrument. An instrument is like a guitar, drum, violin, piano, trumpet. Those are some instrument that you can play.

Hiwarau Funnel ears Science experiment template

Science experiment:

Question: What will happen to the sound if I change the shape of a piece of paper? (e.g. from a flat shape to a funnel shape)

Hypothesis: (What do you think will happen?) e.g. I think that the sound will be Louder and echo a funnel is used.

Materials needed: Paper Cotton Or tissue

Experiment (procedure):

e.g. Step 1 - First hold a flat piece of paper against your ear. Block your other ear with your hand. Get your partner to speak to you. What is the sound like? Can you hear clearly?

Step 2 - Next, roll the piece of paper into a funnel shape. Put the funnel against your ear. Face the funnel towards your partner and listen to them speak. What does it sound like? Can you hear clearly?

Step 3 - Next, face the funnel to the side while your partner speaks to you. Does it make a difference to the sound that you can hear?

Step 4 - Put some cotton balls or tissue paper into the funnel to block one end. Does it make a difference to the sound you hear? Is the sound quality the same?

Step 5 - Next, roll the piece of paper up and face one end of the paper roll towards your partner. Listen to your partner speak. Is there a difference to the sound you hear?

Step 6 - Finally, turn to the side with your paper roll and listen to your partner speak. What is the sound like?

Data (What happened?)

Shape/object/materials

1
flat piece of paper
didn't make any difference
2
funnel facing towards your partner while they speak
sounds loud and different. Voice sounded fuzzy.
3
funnel facing away from your partner (opposite side)
voice sounded quieter. Can hear other voices in the background.
4
cotton ball or tissue  blocking the narrow end of the funnel
voice sounds quieter. can hear some background noise.
5
rolled up piece of paper (facing to the front)
voice still sounds normal
6
rolled up piece of paper (facing to the side)
voice sounds quieter

Observations: (This is your description of what happened)
i think it will be louder.

When Mrs Lagitupu was talking to me it sounded quiet when she used the rolled up piece of paper and it was facing the other side. When the funnel was facing the other side and I blocked my ear, her voice sounded quieter.

When she used the funnel her voice was loud and when she talked from the paper it sounded clear and loud.

I have noticed the sound has changed when you switch ears. When my teacher talks in my ear it makes my ear vibrate when she talks. It was loud when she spoke on my left ear.

Conclusion: (Was your hypothesis correct? This is your summary of the experiment)

When a funnel was used, the sound was louder and clearer. I sort of echoed too. My hypothesis was right.

Music and Sound.

Music  affects your brain so your brain  will help  you remember stuff you have forgotten. People listen to sound all the time people like their own music like Opera or Hip hop. I like listening to Dubstep because I like the beat of it.

Every time I listen to music I feel kind of sleepy. I feel kind of sad how deaf people can not hear anything. When I listen to music I feel happy all the time when I listen to music.

I like to play drums and the guitar. Because just learning how to play guitar and drums is fun. The best instruments I like to play is the drum. When I grow up I might want to play the drums or guitar because I like how people play mean as beats.

But when people play loud music I get agitated. Because when I tried to go to sleep people have parties. They put their music up louder but when people tell them put it down, they put it higher. So you might have to call sound control on them so they will listen.

When I go to the beach my family put music on. It makes the waves move and makes the ground vibrate. When I get sore ears it feels like my ear drums are going to pop so I go somewhere far so I don’t have to listen to loud music.
