Future Aspirations.

1.Future Aspirations

2.Guest speakers

3.Amelia

4. Paula

5.Antony

6.To Miharo hoki

The year 7 and 8s were listening to some speakers about their lives. They were there to talk to us about staying in school to get a good education.

Anthony Samuels was the first one who spoke to the whole year 7 and 8 team. He told all of us that he use to be in 'What Now' which is a TV show. Back in the 80’s it used to come on every Sunday. Then after he he said you are amazing in Maori, which is 'to miharo hoki' in Maori. Then we watched a quick clip about these famous people who got put down by others before they became famous.

Then the next person was Paula he was telling us about his life how he almost died. In swimming when got tired at swimming he started to use his feet and that’s how he use to cheat. He said when he drowned in a competition his friends was getting smart to him. He tried to touch the ground but he was too small the water was too deep to walk.

The lucky last person. Her name was Amelia. She was telling us about her fashion. When she made clothes they looked so amazing she never thought that she would be good at sewing and when she was in a lower class. All her class friend’s said to Amelia I'm going to bet you're not going to be brainy enough to go university but she was still believing her self. “You can't get past me” said Amelia. She became what she wanted to be a clothes fashion person.

Thank You Letter

I just want to say thank you museum helper for helping us go on a trip to the auckland museum. All the years 7 seniors really appreciate you guys how you showed all the beautiful pacific patterns.

We really enjoyed our class time at the auckland museum, and also wanna thank you for coming on the trip and we thank the teachers as well for bringing up the auckland museum trip.

I like it how we got putten into groups and we get to see some nice patterns for our topic for this year. We like it how you inspired us to come on a fantastic trip to the auckland museum.

When we went passed all the patterns they all looked amazing and beautiful. then we went to go see the Pacifica patterns.

They showed what they used to defend each other and their tribe. Then I went to go check out the Samoan patterns. They had like a machete that looked sharp. I think thats what the chief used to have.

Athletics Day.

Last week was athletic day, It was amazing and awsome we done all sorts of things. Like when you gotta hop in a sack and hop to the end of the cone, everyone gets a turn at every game. After that game we had to throw a baseball as far as we could, and then you will get marked 1st 2nd 3rd. that game was a fun I guess.

then we played relays and you gotta hold this swimming noodle between your knees and run to the other side and give to your teammate the noodle so they can run back , and when it’s over the coach will tell you which team.

After that we went to hurdles it’s when you have to jump over these things, it’s like you're jumping over a fence that was so fun, Then we done high jump that was fun as well. When it came up to the last two people Brandon and Taniela, Guess who came first?

Well it was Taniela Brandon came 2nd that was so amazing. It was like It wasn't even real I couldn't believe it Taniela came first it looked like he wasn't even trying he jumped high, the pole was as tall as him.

We didn't get to do all the things for athletic. Thats why we are doing all of it on tuesday. Were doing 100m sprint and doing discus, javelin and thats all, for this year until next year.

I like athletic it’s fun I can't wait until next year. It’s so fun we get to do sports for a whole day and it’s fun for kids getting fit everyday thats what keeps them healthier and have longer life to live and keep getting stronger every day.

Museum trip.

On Tuesday on the third week of school the Year 7s went on a trip to the Museum. We left at 10:30am just to look at all the designs for our topic Art Attack. When we got there, first we went  to go in our groups. Then we went inside to have morning tea.

After that we went to go and see the Maori patterns. They looked so amazing! First we went to the marae. Before you go into the marae you have to take your shoes off. Inside the marae I could see many amazing ancient carvings. I took lots and lots of pictures because they looked so amazing.

After that we went to go and see the Pacifica patterns. They showed what they used to defend each other and their tribe. Then I went to go check out the Samoan patterns. They had like a machete that looked sharp. I think thats what the chief used to have.

After that we went to go see the extinct animals like the big giant moa. It was  five times bigger than a human. Then my team went to see a T-rex and other dinosaurs like the long necked dinosaur. It’s not a meat eater, it’s a vegetarian. It’s a nice big dinosaur. I would have it as a pet.

Then we went outside to take some more pictures and then went down the hill to go and see the nice flowers. It looked nice then I went to the pond which looked like a mansion and I was touching the cat fish.

Why Do We Need To Wash Our Hands?

I think we have to wash our hands to make them smell nice and soft because if we don't wash our hands they we get dirty and sick. Then your fingers will start to get red and and dirty you wouldn't like it.

So thats why it’s important to wash your hands or you will get sick and then you're going to have to go to the doctors and the doctor will tell you to go wash your hands and it be alright.

Most people wash their hands to keep them soft and nice, so thats why it’s important. When your finish washing your hands they smell nice, clean and healthy. Here’s some tips how to wash your hands.

Why is it to have class rules?

If there were no rules there will be there will be chaos and violence. People will be doing drugs, booze and stealing cash and be addicted to drugs. The school will be upside down and all the kids will start fights and start trouble. That’s why there’s rules at school so kids like us can get an education. Students who follow the rules might get a scholarship to go to University.

People will be graffiting around the school and smashing windows and being violent towards the teachers. Teachers will be hurting the children which is called child abuse. That’s what makes chaos and mayhem. Then the school will become an abandoned school.

There will be no more teachers no more students and more mayhem or chaos. The school would look gross with all the graffiti around the school and rubbish all over the grounds. Teachers will get locked up for child abuse.

But if there was no fighting there will be peace. If there were no swear words there will be no mayhem and chaos and other bad stuff like doing drugs and running away from school. The school will have justice and people will have faith in themselves. So thats why there’s rules at school so kids have a chance to go to University and get himself or herself a job. They might have kids that will follow in their footsteps.

Weekend.

In the weekend I went up on the mountain to see the nice view. Once my brother and his friends and I were finished seeing the view, we all came back down the hill. I was tired from walking up and down the mountain.

Then we went to the train station to go back to Glen Innes to go home. When my brother and I got home we made us a big feed because we were hungry.

Then my cousin asked me if I wanted to come to ice skating and I said yes. When we got ready, Mele’s mum who is my aunt, dropped us over to Analiz house. We went to pick her up then we went to Paradise Ice Skating.

When we got in it was cold inside we had to get some skates from the counter. When I started to skate I fell Then I started sliding on the floor my legs started to get numb from the ice on the ground.

Friday 19 September 2014

Cross Country.

When cross country started, I was so nervous, I had butterflies in my stomach. Even after all those trainings I had, I was still shaking with fear. Finally the day had come for cross country.

Students at Pt England come in their house colors to race there are only 4 colors that Tainui, Takitimu, Matatua, Tearawa. Everyone sites in their rows up to year 1 to 8. First to starts off are the year 1 kids to year 8.

Finally it’s the year 7 and 8 turn to run. “READY, SET…. GO!” Mr Burt yells and we all start running as fast as we can. First comes Iisa and Lee, second Damien, 3rd Jordan. They were all running their best but I was so puffed and tired

I ran so fast like Usain Bolt. Lots and lots of mud went all over me. I just couldn't wait until was finish. We had to run all over the mud it was annoying and agitating because my feet was going in the mud.

“GO, GO, Hiwarau!” my friends yell, even my cool cousin Mele. She was cheering me on, that’s what made me happy when people cheer me to keep running.

When the race was over I was so tired but lucky I didn't wear my shoes or my shoes will get stuck in the mud. I was so exhausted that the race was over. And when I looked at the back of my pants the were soggy and muddy and wet.

Ban Plastic Bags.

Dear Prime Minister John Key,

I am writing this letter to to tell you that plastic bags should be banned.

People need plastic bags to help them carry their food and groceries. But I think people should pay to use plastic bags because it’s sad for the fish. People are throwing their plastic bags in the sea and ocean which is making the sea creatures get sick and die.

Plastic bags can harm little kids. Did you know that little kids copy other people? If they see someone do something bad,  little kids copy them.

That’s why it’s bad to have plastic bags near kids. Supermarkets make people buy plastic bags. 1 billion plastic bags are used in NZ every year.

Please ban plastic bags from NZ.

Yours sincerely
Hiwarau

Hiwarau(should children exercise every day?)

Now you need to structure your argument:

I think children should do exercise because they could become fit and be healthy. So if they did not do exercise they are unfit to run or walk so thats why you should exercise.`

If children exercise they could become a runner. A runner means when you run a lot you become a runner and become fit.

When children exercise they love being fit. Being fit means that you run  or walk all the time. People exercise because they want to be fit and live longer.

People train to become fit. Training means when people train for something they train everyday for long so they can become fit and healthy

People run so they can become healthy and fit. Kids should run for cross country and because it is good for them.

Hiwarau - Term 3 Writing Sample

You got to take care of your mind and body because thats suppose to  keep you alive. Your brain is to help everything in your body work and stay alive.

The brain helps you to read, see, write and hear. You body takes care of you, like when you get scared your drenalin comes and you would be running because you would be scared, but it only stays for 1 minute or 2.

If you don't take care of body you would get sick and it can lead to death. Thats why you go to take care of your own body and brain you got to eat the right food and drink water.

If you don't drink water you get dehydrated so thats why you got to eat the right food and drink. It’s important that you look after your body and brain.

Your blood in your body is to keep your body moving, and your mussel is to help you move but your brain controls everything in you body.

If you take drugs you can get really agresif to your family or other people. There are drugs named Weed,Cocaine,Pills,glue.K2,Synthetic.

The pills can kill you some people use car logos to put on the pills and to sell it to prank people that it’s a good pill but it’s not so don’t take it it might kill you or hurt you every drug is bad for you but some are good for you some drugs are legal and some drugs are illegal.

You will see if you take a pill thats bad for your body you can die if you take the wrong pills. But some pill are good for you if you're sick the doctors give you some pill.

Life ed.

Today was our last day with Harold (Life Ed) and today we learnt about alcohol. Alcohol could do lots of damage to your body if you drink too much. It can make you so drunk you can’t move or see.

Many people can die from alcohol like a boy named James. He was fit and healthy and once there was a party he went and he got offered a big bottle of alcohol. He got drunk and he was stumbling all over the place.

Then he went to sleep and all his friends said where is James and one of his mates said asleep he will be alright. The next morning his mates were trying to wake him up but it was too late he was already dead.

They tried to take him to hospital but it did not work. It was on the newspaper and it would been sad if that was one of your brothers or sisters.

Next there was a girl she was drunk and she was dancing on top of a car roof and after she had her dance she fell off the car roof on the the ground. Then someone went to go and take her into their car. He or she were going to take her to hospital but he did not. He could of took her somewhere else like their mates place or their place.

Lest We Forget.

Today we went to Assembly to listen about people who fought for us a 100 years ago today.  They were named the ANZAC soldiers. Mr Burt and Mrs Flavelle’s grandpas signed up to go to war in 1914. After that some people died and people lived. Mr Burt and Mrs Flavelle’s grandpas survived the war and they were war heroes.

In the war Mr Burt and Mrs Flavelle’s grandpas had to fight in mud because the trees and the ground got blown up. They used a duck board, it’s like planks of wood, so they wouldn't get muddy and dirty. Many people got injured when the war ended. There were many young people who were fighting for our country New Zealand.

When they came back from the war Mr Burts grandpa married Mr Burts Grandma. He did not have good clothes to get married in only his army uniform. That’s how they made Mr Burt's parents, and Mr Burt's parents made him. Mr Burt told the whole school about his grandpa and how he married his grandma. Today we put up the flag at half mast like every school in NZ.

Holidays.

In the holidays I played on a computer at the internet cafe. When I was finished at the internet cafe I bought me some Mcdonalds. Delicious! Then I jumped on the train with my brother and his friends to go to Ten Pin bowling in Panmure.

We stayed there playing basketball. You have to have a ticket or a token to play, but I didn't have any. So I just opened the cage thing and took the ball. Then I started to play basketball in the mini hoop. After that I took my brothers friend Jayden and we had some Burger King.

Next, we all went back to G.I and we all had fun because we went back to the internet cafe and played games. The next day we all went to Sylvia Park to buy some clothes and some other stuff. Then we went to Panmure, and we on jumped the train again.

Whether And Rain.

Todays weather is terrible because it’s pouring with rain everywhere it’s cold and  frosty everywhere. But it’s warm in my class because we have a big heater. Everywhere around our school  is big mud puddle patches and our grass is dying because it’s winter today we are going to have to wait until summer.

In the village were the little kids classes are lots of mud puddles because lots of kids keep jumping in the mud puddles thats why it is muddy. In the senior block there's a big patch of mud in the middle of the classes and people keep slipping down and getting dirty.

On the field I think they're going to close it down. Because there is lots of big puddle and mud puddles as well when students try to play a sport like touch they slip and get heart and get sick because it’s cold and and it’s winter.

I cant wait until the sun comes up because I want to go and play games outside with my friends. We all like playing octopus every time when we go on the bottom field sometimes when it’s wet and muddy we play on the courts.

Explanation of how sound is created: by making an instrument and by playing it.
Introduction:
I’m going to explain how…

Main reason:guitars make high and low sound when you strum

Second reason:
if you do not strum the guitar it does not make any noise

Third reason: The reason I pick guitar because I like the sound it makes

Conclusion: so the how the guitar makes sound

Sciece Road Show.

On Friday morning class 2 walked down to Tamaki College. Once we got to Tamaki College this man named Sean he is so tall he has to duck to go under the door. When we got in the room there was 2men and 1 lady. They were telling us about science. They told us they needed 3 volunteers.

So the 3 volunteers they picked was Iisa and Emmy and Anthony. When Iisa stood up he had to put on a blind fold. When the scientist said he had to pick food. There was one bad food and one good food Iisa had to pick one with the blindfold on. The lady put the food on one hand and then the other.

He had to put one hand up and it was the good food. Then he had to go find some water? So the lady went to put on a picture of a lion and a pitcher of a crocodile. He had to try and pick the right picture. He picked the wrong picture he pick the lion. he wanted to have water but he got the wrong one he was supposed to pick the crocodile.

Now it was Emmys turn. The scientist asked her if she had asmar and she said no.
There was this big mug with a tube on it. the lady asked her to blow on it So she did the. Then the blue water turned into a different color water and it looked cool when blew in to it and the it chand into another color.

Now it’s Anthony’s turn. The lady asked him questions. She said to him how old is he and when is his birthday so he told her. Then she typed it on the ipad. Then it said in 20 years he would be like 3 or 4 foot in 20 years and it was fun listening to the scientist and them for teaching us stuff that we could do.

When the scientist told us that we could play on any material they bring to Tamaki College.
The first thing I picked was the piano it was cool because when you stand on the keys it plays.
After that I went to play on the hot air balloon you  have to hold the hot air balloon and hold the button until it heated up and then you let it go and then it went high.

Hiwarau Guitars.

Guitars are cool instruments to play. Some people like playing guitars and some don’t. You can make songs from guitars. I like it when people play guitars because it can make other people play guitars and other instruments.

When people strum guitars it vibrates and it shakes. You can hear the noise coming from the back of the guitar. The hole on the guitar helps it make noise. So if the guitar didn't have a hole and it is not shaped the way it is it wouldn't make the same sound.

A guitar has six metal strings, and tuning pegs. Guitars are made from wood, guitars can play melodies and harmonies. The metal wires are to help guitars play. Because if a guitar did not have any strings it won't play any music.

When you play music the sound waves vibrate the air molecules, it’s the same with a guitar. When you strum it, the strings vibrate. It will make lots of sound when you play an instrument. An instrument is like a guitar, drum, violin, piano, trumpet. Those are some instrument that you can play.

Hiwarau Funnel ears Science experiment template

Science experiment:

Question: What will happen to the sound if I change the shape of a piece of paper? (e.g. from a flat shape to a funnel shape)

Hypothesis: (What do you think will happen?) e.g. I think that the sound will be Louder and echo a funnel is used.

Materials needed: Paper Cotton Or tissue

Experiment (procedure):

e.g. Step 1 - First hold a flat piece of paper against your ear. Block your other ear with your hand. Get your partner to speak to you. What is the sound like? Can you hear clearly?

Step 2 - Next, roll the piece of paper into a funnel shape. Put the funnel against your ear. Face the funnel towards your partner and listen to them speak. What does it sound like? Can you hear clearly?

Step 3 - Next, face the funnel to the side while your partner speaks to you. Does it make a difference to the sound that you can hear?

Step 4 - Put some cotton balls or tissue paper into the funnel to block one end. Does it make a difference to the sound you hear? Is the sound quality the same?

Step 5 - Next, roll the piece of paper up and face one end of the paper roll towards your partner. Listen to your partner speak. Is there a difference to the sound you hear?

Step 6 - Finally, turn to the side with your paper roll and listen to your partner speak. What is the sound like?

Data (What happened?)

Shape/object/materials

1
flat piece of paper
didn't make any difference
2
funnel facing towards your partner while they speak
sounds loud and different. Voice sounded fuzzy.
3
funnel facing away from your partner (opposite side)
voice sounded quieter. Can hear other voices in the background.
4
cotton ball or tissue  blocking the narrow end of the funnel
voice sounds quieter. can hear some background noise.
5
rolled up piece of paper (facing to the front)
voice still sounds normal
6
rolled up piece of paper (facing to the side)
voice sounds quieter

Observations: (This is your description of what happened)
i think it will be louder.

When Mrs Lagitupu was talking to me it sounded quiet when she used the rolled up piece of paper and it was facing the other side. When the funnel was facing the other side and I blocked my ear, her voice sounded quieter.

When she used the funnel her voice was loud and when she talked from the paper it sounded clear and loud.

I have noticed the sound has changed when you switch ears. When my teacher talks in my ear it makes my ear vibrate when she talks. It was loud when she spoke on my left ear.

Conclusion: (Was your hypothesis correct? This is your summary of the experiment)

When a funnel was used, the sound was louder and clearer. I sort of echoed too. My hypothesis was right.

Music and Sound.

Music  affects your brain so your brain  will help  you remember stuff you have forgotten. People listen to sound all the time people like their own music like Opera or Hip hop. I like listening to Dubstep because I like the beat of it.

Every time I listen to music I feel kind of sleepy. I feel kind of sad how deaf people can not hear anything. When I listen to music I feel happy all the time when I listen to music.

I like to play drums and the guitar. Because just learning how to play guitar and drums is fun. The best instruments I like to play is the drum. When I grow up I might want to play the drums or guitar because I like how people play mean as beats.

But when people play loud music I get agitated. Because when I tried to go to sleep people have parties. They put their music up louder but when people tell them put it down, they put it higher. So you might have to call sound control on them so they will listen.

When I go to the beach my family put music on. It makes the waves move and makes the ground vibrate. When I get sore ears it feels like my ear drums are going to pop so I go somewhere far so I don’t have to listen to loud music.
